Human Rights Review Panel Outreach in Serbia

The Human Rights Review Panel (Panel) extended its ongoing information campaign to Serbia from 23 to 25 January 2011.

The Panel met with Mr. Vladimir Ristic, Assistant Minister, Ministry for Kosovo and Metohija and Mr. Slobodan Boskovic, Assistant Minister, Ministry of Justice in Belgrade.

The Ministers were briefed on the mandate and activities of the Panel, after which the Panel answered numerous questions about its work and received information from the Assistant Ministers on the current situation regarding several Kosovo-related issues. The Ministers assured the Panel of the readiness of the respective Ministries to assist it with its information campaign.

Additionally, the Panel met with representatives of Danish Refugee Council, UNHCR, Group 484, Sveti Spas and Balkan Center for Migration in Belgrade. The Panel also engaged in discussions with the Nis Association of Missing and Kidnapped Persons as well as representatives of some IDP-families in Prokuplje.

The Human Rights Review Panel (HRRP) for EULEX Kosovo, as an independent accountability mechanism for alleged violations of human rights, will review complaints from any person claiming to be the victim of human rights violations by EULEX Kosovo in the conduct of its executive mandate. The HRRP is not a judicial or disciplinary body. The mechanism will solely look into whether a violation of human rights occurred or not and formulate recommendations for remedial action. Such action does no include monetary compensation.  The HRRP is independent in the exercise of its functions which it will perform with impartiality and integrity.
